In order to work legally in Turkey, two basic documents are required:

Work visa

These two documents are issued by different institutions and through different processes.

**1. What is a Work Visa?

• Issued at the Turkish Consulate in the applicant's country of residence.

• It is processed in the passport and is required for entry into Turkey.

**2. What is a Work Permit?

• Issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security upon entry into Turkey.

• It is an official permission card that allows you to work legally in Turkey.

• In order to apply for a work permit, you must have at least 6 months valid residence permit.

**Who Gets a Work Visa or Work Permit?

According to Turkish labor law:

• Applications are made by the employer.

• The foreign employee only submits the necessary documents to the employer.

**Work Permit Application Process in Turkey

1. The foreigner must have a residence permit for at least 6 months.

2. The employer applies to the Ministry of Labor with all documents.

The Work Visa Process through the Turkish Consulate Abroad

1. The employer sends the originals of the employment contract and other documents to the applicant.

2. The applicant applies in person at the Turkish Consulate in his/her country.

3. The applicant receives a reference number.

4. The employer submits an online application to the Ministry of Labor using this number within 10 days.

5. The evaluation period varies between 30-90 working days.

6. If approved, the work visa is recorded in the passport.
